There are plenty of fantastic retirement communities across the United States. Across the country, the majority of active retirement communities have a minimum age requirement of 55 to own property.
According to the Deming Headlight, the City of Deming has earned the prestigious Seal of Approval from the American Association of Retirement Communities (AARC), the country’s leading organization on educating local governments and communities on retiree attraction.
The AARC Seal of Approval program was established in 1994 and is given to receptions that demonstrate an excellent commitment to making their community a top-notch destination through amenity development, communication programs, education, and lifestyle programming. The prestigious award is given out annually. Only 63% of people move to a new community at least once in their lifetime, and this award could certainly make Deming worth relocating to for those over 55.
“The City of Deming is a stunning example of a successful retirement community in Luna County,” said Rachel Baker, AARC chairperson.
AARC Seal of Approval winners are evaluated by a national panel of retirement experts on a variety of criteria:
- Healthcare
- Retiree-appropriate housing
- Lifestyle amenities
- Adult education
- Governmental and private support of retiree-focused programs
- Recreational and cultural opportunities
Deming was certified as a retirement community just two years ago and has already earned the coveted Seal of Approval AARC award.
“It is not just about retirees; it goes far deeper to ensure we are holding ourselves to a higher standard by consistently trying to improve the quality of life,” added Cassie Arias, executive director of Deming Luna County Economic Development. “This designation allows us to market ourselves in that light and adds validity to our efforts in attracting the right industry to our community, as well as have a positive impact on tourism in Deming.”
Deming will now receive free advertising from the AARC through the company’s website, as the city is displayed along with dozens of other communities that have been recognized by the AARC in the past.
