Stars Clean Up House At Teen Choice Awards’ Sweet Sixteen

While carpet covers nearly 70% of all American floors, all-American teens were busy watching their favorite stars take over the red carpet on Sunday’s Teen Choice Awards.

According to a recent report from CNN, the Teen Choice Awards brought on a new tradition this year by letting the kids pick the award categories, as well as its winners. As a result, several famous Vine makers and Instagram influencers made history by taking home awards without ever making their big-screen or top-of-the-chart debuts.

The show was riddled with topical stars and subjects, like the cast of the upcoming film Straight Outta Compton or Australian boy band superstars 5 Seconds of Summer.

Wiz Khalifa, rap star, teleprompter ignoring specialist, and performer of the smash summer hit “See You Again,” also made an appearance.

Upcoming feature film Finding Dory star Ellen Degeneres was also on hand and won a comedy award. The comedienne also had some words for the teens in the audience.

“I want to say it feels good to be chosen but there was a time in my life when I was not chosen,” the comedienne commented in her acceptance speech. “I was the opposite of chosen because I was different, and I want to make sure everyone knows what makes you different now makes you stand out later in life, so you should be proud of being different and be proud of who you are.”

While the teen-designed “Choice Movie Actor: Sci-Fi” category was set up to see which Hemsworth brother would reign supreme, Josh Hutcherson’s win proved that The Hunger Games fans have the odds ever in their favor.

Fifth Harmony introduced Britney Spears, who made a speech to teens to embrace their weird fashion sense since it will help them to really become themselves later in life.

Flo Rida and Robin Thicke performed at the end of the night. One Direction cleaned up house with eight total awards, including Choice Male Music Group, Choice Group Song, and Choice International Artists.

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran also received multiple awards for their work.

The Teen Choice Awards this year marks the ceremony’s 16th birthday, which is also the average age for the show’s viewers and voters. Happy Sweet Sixteen, Teen Choice Awards! We’ll see you all next year.
