Winter Vehicle Maintenance Tips

As Americans, we heavily rely on our vehicles to help us get from place to place. If the vehicles do not work, it’s hard for us to do everything we need to do on a daily basis. Keeping our cars in prime condition can really help to ensure that we are able to go about our lives like normal.

It’s extremely important for us to keep our cars in working order during every season. However, when the winter arrives, it’s crucial for us to take care of our vehicles. According to the Green Bay Press Gazette, the snow, sleet, and salt are things that can really impact how our vehicles work. Even though many people are familiar with the colder weather, they might not be doing everything they should do to take care of their cars. Cars are an expensive piece of equipment, so if we don’t take care of them, it’s like pouring money down the drain. There are many ways someone can take care of their car during the cooler months.

Car Washes…in the Winter??

First, the Gazette says that even though it might seem pointless, it’s very important to get your car washed. Sure, your car might get dirty less than 10 minutes after you go through the spraying machines and blow dryers, but this is something that needs to be done every single winter. Any salt that has built up under the car can actually ruin different parts. Getting the car washed will clear out the salt and protects the underbelly of your vehicle. Try washing your car at least twice a month during the winter.

Don’t Forget About the Windows

It’s extremely common for us to roll our windows down in the winter. We might not be rolling them down to enjoy the breeze on a nice warm day, but we need them to function when pulling up to a drive-thru or bank, for example. If it is freezing outside, their Windows might not roll down at all. You might try to force them open which can actually do more harm than help. The Gazette says it costs about $300 to replace a window by forcing the window to roll down you’re setting yourself up for breakage. It’s highly unlikely that you want to pay the extra money for something that could have easily been prevented.

Gas Is Important

NBC24 says that it’s important to make sure that your car has enough gas in it. Not only does the gas tank go down a lot faster during the colder months, but the more gas that’s in your car can actually act as a weight. The weight of the gas can help with traction and can prevent the gas from freezing up.

According to a recent survey, about 77% of cars needed maintenance or repairs. To avoid having to take your car in for these repairs, make sure you’re taking the proper steps to keep your car in good shape during the winter.
