THE
FOUR EMOTIONS THAT CAN LEAD TO LIFE CHANGE by Jim Rohn
(excerpted
from "Seven Strategies for Wealth and Happiness")
|
 |
Emotions
are the most powerful forces inside us. Under the power of emotions, human
beings can perform the most heroic (as well as barbaric) acts. To a great
degree, civilization itself can be defined as the intelligent channeling
of human emotion. Emotions are fuel and the mind is the pilot,
which together propel the ship of civilized progress.
Which
emotions cause people to act? There are four basic ones; each, or a combination
of several, can trigger the most incredible activity. The day that you
allow these emotions to fuel your desire is the day you'll turn your life
around.
1)
DISGUST
One
does not usually equate the word "disgust" with positive action. And yet
properly channeled, disgust can change a person's life. The person who
feels disgusted has reached a point of no return. He or she is ready to
throw down the gauntlet at life and say, "I've had it!" That's what I said
after many humiliating experiences at age 25, I said. "I don't want to
live like this anymore. I've had it with being broke. I've had it with
being embarrassed, and I've had it with lying."
Yes,
productive feelings of disgust come when a person says, "Enough is enough."
The
"guy" has finally had it with mediocrity. He's had it with those awful
sick feelings of fear, pain and humiliation. He then decides he is not
going to live like this anymore." Look out! This could be the day that
turns a life around. Call it what you will, the "I've had it" day,
the "never again" day, the "enough's enough" day. Whatever you call it,
it's powerful! There is nothing so life-changing as gut-wrenching
disgust!
2)
DECISION
Most
of us need to be pushed to the wall to make decisions. And once we reach
this point, we have to deal with the conflicting emotions that come with
making them. We have reached a fork in the road. Now this fork can be a
two-prong, three-prong, or even a four-prong fork. No wonder that decision-making
can create knots in stomachs, keep us awake in the middle of the night,
or make us break out in a cold sweat.
Making
life-changing decisions can be likened to internal civil war. Conflicting
armies of emotions, each with its own arsenal of reasons, battle each other
for supremacy of our minds. And our resulting decisions, whether bold or
timid, well thought out or impulsive, can either set the course of action
or blind it. I don't have much advice to give you about decision-making
except this:
Whatever
you do, don't camp at the fork in the road. Decide. It's far better to
make a wrong decision than to not make one at all. Each of us must confront
our emotional turmoil and sort out our feelings.
3)
DESIRE
How
does one gain desire? I don't think I can answer this directly because
there are many ways. But I do know two things about desire:
a.
It comes from the inside not the outside.
b.
It can be triggered by outside forces.
Almost
anything can trigger desire. It's a matter of timing as much as preparation.
It might be a song that tugs at the heart. It might be a memorable sermon.
It might be a movie, a conversation with a friend, a confrontation with
the enemy, or a bitter experience. Even a book or an article such as this
one can trigger the inner mechanism that will make some people say, "I
want it now!"
Therefore,
while searching for your "hot button" of pure, raw desire, welcome into
your life each positive experience. Don't erect a wall to protect you from
experiencing life. The same wall that keeps out your disappointment also
keeps out the sunlight of enriching experiences. So let life touch
you. The next touch could be the one that turns your life around.
4)
RESOLVE
Resolve
says, "I will." These two words are among the most potent in the English
language. I WILL. Benjamin Disraeli, the great British statesman, once
said, "Nothing can resist a human will that will stake even its existence
on the extent of its purpose." In other words, when someone resolves to
"do or die," nothing can stop him.
The
mountain climber says, "I will climb the mountain. They've told me it's
too high, it's too far, it's too steep, it's too rocky, it's too difficult.
But it's my mountain. I will climb it. You'll soon see me waving from the
top or you'll never see me, because unless I reach the peak, I'm not coming
back." Who can argue with such resolve?
When
confronted with such iron-will determination, I can see Time, Fate and
Circumstance calling a hasty conference and deciding, "We might as well
let him have his dream. He's said he's going to get there or die trying."
The
best definition for "resolve" I've ever heard came from a schoolgirl in
Foster City, California. As is my custom, I was lecturing about success
to a group of bright kids at a junior high school. I asked, "Who can tell
me what "resolve" means?" Several hands went up, and I did get some pretty
good definitions. But the last was the best. A shy girl from
the back of the room got up and said with quiet intensity, "I think resolve
means promising yourself you will never give up." That's it! That's the
best definition I've ever heard: PROMISE YOURSELF YOU'LL NEVER GIVE
UP.
Think
about it! How long should a baby try to learn how to walk? How long would
you give the average baby before you say, "That's it, you've had your chance"?
You say that's crazy? Of course it is. Any mother would say, "My baby is
going to keep trying until he learns how to walk!" No wonder everyone walks.
There
is a vital lesson in this. Ask yourself, "How long am I going to work to
make my dreams come true?" I suggest you answer, "As long as it takes."
That's what these four emotions are all about.

A
SENSE OF URGENCY IS TREMENDOUS by Charlie 'T' Jones
|
 |
Perhaps
my findings are not the only solution, but with all my heart I believe
the fires of greatness in our heart can be kept aglow only after we develop
a sense of urgency and importance for what we are doing. I mean a sense
of urgency to the extent that we feel it is a matter of life and death;
and it is a matter of life and death, for in growing we are alive and in
quitting we are dying in a sense. If you don't believe this, talk
to anyone who has lost the sense of urgency of getting things done and
has been drifting in complacency, mediocrity and failure. If you are without
a sense of urgency in your work, you know what I mean.
A sense
of urgency is that feeling that lets you know yesterday is gone forever,
tomorrow never comes. TODAY is in your hands. It lets you know that
shirking today's task will add to wasted yesterdays and postponing today's
work will add to tomorrow's burden. The sense of urgency causes you to
accomplish what today sets before you. Thank God for the sense of urgency
that can change a dull, shabby existence into a sparkling life. Right now,
ask God to give you a sense of urgency. Believe that He did, and then act
accordingly.
Tremendously,
Charles

EXPECT
THE UNEXPECTED...by Jerry "DRhino" Clark
|
| |
For
the past several years, I had been thinking, evaluating, contemplating,
and hesitating about going to the doctor and getting Laser Surgery Performed
on my eyes... Ok, let me just tell you the truth: I was afraid... Oh no,
not the Charging Rhino... The Go, Go, Go man, the Positive Motivational
Kid who went from the Inner City Ghetto to the Beaches of the World...
Yes, I confess in front of thousands of people from all corners of the
Globe... I was flat out scared... You say, but Jerry, pointing lasers and
drilling holes in your eyes is definitely something to be understandably
afraid of... Yes But; and this is a BIG BUT... I had done adequate research...
I knew that over a Million people had successfully been through the operation...
I knew that the chances of a minor problem was slim to none, and I knew
the chances of a major catastrophe was virtually nonexistent... I even
interviewed several people who had it done and they all loved it... I even
checked up on the first person who ever got it done - which was in 1987
- and he still had 20/20 vision and never had any problems... In other
words, I knew there was really nothing worthwhile being afraid of... My
F.E.A.R was simply a False Emotion Appearing Real... I had worn glasses
since 1986 and was really ready to throw away those Visual Crutches...
My vision had deteriorated to 20/600 which is not good when you understand
that the so-called "perfect" vision for Human Beings is said to be 20/20...
So, after years of not stepping out of my fear zone on this issue, I decided
to go and do it... My only expectation after the surgery was that I would
be able to see without my eyeglasses... Wow! Was I in for a Shock... Don't
get me wrong, I got the surgery done last week and my vision without prescription
glasses or contacts is now 20/15, which is actually better than 20/20...
It's awesome! However, I also see things that I didn't expect...
In other words, there were things going on around me in my life by people
who were very close to me and I didn't "see" it before my eye surgery...
However, it became clearly apparent after the surgery... I guess the surgery
to improve my vision or sight also opened the gate to improve my vision
or sight in areas that I would have never thought possible or dreamt of...
What are some areas of your life that you've been procrastinating on?
What have you wanted to do but have thus far been afraid to just do it?
If it is something that you know will make a positive difference in your
life, I suggest you make a commitment now to do it... However, be prepared
to get a lot more than you bargained for because in the 21st Century...
EXPECT
THE UNEXPECTED
Until
next time... Go, Go, Go!!!

TAKING
ACTION by Zig Ziglar
|
| |
Marc
Wright, president of the Kiddie Card Company, is one of the youngest entrepreneurs
in Canada. He started his business when he was just six years old after
listening to some motivational tapes. Following a visit to an art museum,
Marc thought he would make some drawings and see if he could earn money.
His mother suggested he put his pictures on cards and sell them. He was
an immediate success with some rather unique concepts.
Marc
knocks on doors and gives his short, but effective sales talk. "Hi. My
name is Marc, and I'm freezing! I'm selling greeting cards. How many would
you like to buy? Here's a handful. Just pick the ones you want and pay
me what you want." His cards are hand-drawn on pink, green and white paper.
They cover the season of the year, and Marc sells them about three days
a week. He averages about 75 cents a card and sells about 25 cards an hour.
His
first year in business, Marc earned $3,000, enough to take his mom on a
trip to Disney World.
By
age ten, Marc had become something of a media celebrity. He appeared on
Late Night with David Letterman and was interviewed by Conan O'Brien.
Marc
had an idea, didn't count his birthdays, received some encouragement from
his mother, and started his business.
Question:
Do you have an idea that's marketable? If you do, take action!

HOW
BAD DO YOU REALLY WANT TO SUCCEED IN LIFE?
by
Doug Firebaugh
|
|
Question.
How bad do you really want to succeed in life?
Think
about it...how bad? A little? A lot?
Another
question - Are you willing to fight for it?
Are
you willing to go the distance like you never have before, and bring out
that fight in you that has been beaten down for so long?
Do
you realize the only fight you have with Success is yourself? That's it.
(CLUE!!)
Remember
this - ALL Defeat comes from within.
Period.
No exceptions.
The
only person who can stop you from becoming successful is YOU. YOU FIGHT
YOU all day long with untruths about yourself that attracts failure and
mediocrity like a magnet on steroids.
The
words you say.
The
thoughts you think.
The
words others say and you believe - your past which you cling to - and the
excuses you have embraced.
But
yet you want more out of life.
You
know what FIGHT stands for? Forcing Inside Garbage <to> Honor Truth.
The
truth about you, the truth about what your Creator wants for your life.
The truth about the greatness inside of you and the Fight that is starving
to Pummel mediocrity and failure to smithereens – it's there, you know
it is - it's just dormant.
Increase
the size of the fight in you and face the truth about yourself. There
is a Bigger YOU inside that can create a destiny and future that's staggering
if you let it, and let the Fighting Spirit in you refuse to give up or
be denied.
He
did.
He
came home, slammed the books down on the table, ran upstairs, slammed the
door and broke down and cried. It was his 10th grade year. His mother came
in, and said, "Son...what's wrong?" Through a 15-year-old's broken heart,
he said - "I got cut. I didn't make the team. Said I was too small."
With
incredible wisdom, the mother said, "Son, it's not the size of the person
in the game. It's the size of the game in the person." She left.
It
clicked. In a huge way. Like nothing had ever before.
The
next morning It started. He got up at 4:30 am and started practicing, every
morning, every evening, every day, every week, every month. Relentless,
non-stop. His Fight had Ignited. He would not be denied. Through
the snow, rain, sleet, ice, wind, hail, He kept practicing - gave up movies
and things that he did before. The Fight kept getting bigger. And
bigger. And Bigger.
And
he kept saying, "It's not the size of the player in the game, but the size
of the game in the player." Over and Over and Over. And then it came
around again. The Season. He tried out with a focus so strong that
it intimidated even the coach. His Fight was at Peak Force. And he made
the team. The next year he made the team. And he went on to
Explode the fight in him to where no one dared to stop him.
His
name? Michael Jordan.
What's
the size of your game?
Blessings....
