For a lot of us, it does. That's probably because we've started new years before with great efforts and dedication to being more fit only to have our desire, dedication and efforts fizzle within a few weeks. I would like to share with you some thoughts and pointers on physical fitness. I'm sure you'll agree that selling is a high energy business. In fact, in today's world any business is a high energy situation. That's why it's so important that you keep yourself healthy. You can't maintain a positive, high energy level with your clients and loved ones if you are not feeling well. Also, since the first impression is so important in selling, every salesperson needs to look his or her overall best at all times. Think about that. How would you like to become involved with someone who looked like his or her next stop should be a hospital? You'd probably be a little bit uncertain about how well you would be taken care of if your representative doesn't take care of himself or herself. Handling our wants (junk food and television), rather than our needs (healthy snacks and exercise), weakens us. That weakness will show up in our ability to serve others. Our most basic physical human needs are food, water and sleep. To perform at an optimum level, you need to provide yourself with the optimum level of all three. If you know you need help in this area and you know you are neglecting your health, you've got to make a decision to make it a priority in your life. By remembering the importance of repetition in your eating and exercising habits for 21 consecutive days, you will start an excitement towards physical fitness that will last your lifetime. Do you know there are people in this world who don't even drink one glass of water a day? They don't exercise at all and don't even know the amount of sleep they need. Sadly, it's a rather large percentage of the population that falls in this category. Hopefully, you are not one of them, but if you are, you're about to become educated enough to begin living a healthier lifestyle and reaping the rewards of doing so. Most people who are smart enough to be in selling are smart enough to know about keeping themselves fit. They don't want their clients distracted from the presentation or the closing of the sale so they do their best to take care of themselves, dress appropriately and mind their manners. No one expecting the best from you in business cares if you had a poor night sleep, are not feeling well, or have personal problems. They care only about your level of competence and how well you will serve their needs. Since you have the power to have good health, it shouldn't get in the way of your total success. Improving and/or maintaining your health is divided into two parts: Part one involves doing positive things like exercising intelligently, eating right, getting enough sleep and learning to cope with stress. The second part of improving your health includes eliminating negative things such as being overweight, smoking, eating foods that are high in cholesterol and abusing alcohol. Meeting either half of the challenge may require some changes in your lifestyle. Exercise is an important factor for good health. Exercising is an excellent way to build the energy we need to face each day. It also helps mental tension. Recent studies show that people who exercise regularly have quicker memories than non-exercising people. The exercisers don't remember more--they just remember more quickly. Regular exercisers also sleep better, have fewer colds and metabolize their food more efficiently. It only makes sense that when you take care of your body it will perform all of its functions better. Many people think of exercise as running, playing tennis and lifting weights. All those things are fine, but if you're out of shape and on the high side of 35, let me suggest walking for starters. When getting started, remember: any amount you do is better than nothing. Make sure you have realistic expectations that you are willing to commit to. It would be foolish to start your exercise program by running a mile a day. Walking five minutes a day and stretching it to seven minutes, nine minutes etc. is more practical. Just like doing a sales presentation, you must preplan and prepare your body every time you exercise. Get the approval of your doctor, be certain you use the proper clothing and shoes for the type of activity you are planning to do, and begin every form of exercise with a brief five minute warm-up. Here are a few pointers to keep in mind when developing or engaging in exercise: Regularity and frequency are the most important elements to instill in your exercise program. This helps strengthen your heart. You should find something you enjoy doing and can continue doing for at least 30 minutes, four times a week. Weekend exercise only is not enough. Make sure you don't exercise too close to your bedtime. Exercise burns calories, but generates activity. Late night workouts can have a negative effect on your sleep pattern. Develop a pattern and stick with it as much as possible. Get up at the same time every day, regardless of when you go to sleep. Short naps of 10-15 minutes are great revivers, but they should be kept short so they don't have an affect on your night sleep. The average person only needs 7-8 hours of sleep a night. Early morning or right after work is the best time to engage in your chosen exercise. With a family, release your tensions not on them, but with them. Play with your family by utilizing your neighborhood park and throwing a frisbee or ball around. Ride your bikes, go swimming, take a brisk walk or play catch in the yard. All of these family activities help everyone involved release the tension the day has brought on. Take charge of your physical life and you'll have more energy for all the other areas! =================================================== You can receive more information about Tom Hopkins, as well as receive 20% off his audio and book products, including How to Master the Art of Selling Anything, The Official Guide to Success and The Academy of Master Closing, by going to http://www.yoursuccessstore.com. ==================================================== MESSAGES FROM THE MASTERS IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY: ==================================================== <><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><><> NEW Release Special Offer! - The Jim Rohn Weekend Event: Excelling in the New Millennium (includes Jim's complete Two-Day event plus 8 Bonus Sessions - 21 hours total) The Greatest Personal Development Product Ever Created! 21 hours on DVD for home viewing (A must for your home or business library!) 20 CDs for audio listening 250-page comprehensive Workbook and Study Guide PLUS 2 Special Bonuses: The NEW - Jim Rohn Limited Edition Series Black Leather Journal; First 5,000 are Signed & Numbered Have your 8 DVD, 20 CD and Workbook Package signed and numbered by Jim Rohn Be part of the event that made history.
