When he’s not dodging comparisons to fellow teen heartthrob Justin Bieber, opening up for Taylor Swift on tour, or featuring on decidedly mediocre collaborations with Pitbull, 18-year-old Austin Mahone loves customizing his Range Rover with vinyl car wraps. According to January 20 Auto Evolution article, Mahone has been wrapping his Range Rover in countless custom colors and designs since getting the car when he was just 16. So far, it’s been wrapped bright red, with red-on-black rims to offset the look, and “a weird dinosaur-like look” created with black and white strips, the article reports, among several other color and pattern schemes.
And Mahone is far from the only celebrity who loves custom-wrapping his car to his tastes. Chris Brown wrapped his Lamborghini in Tupac lyrics, while Flo Rida customized his car with a gold wrap. Subtle!
“Many celebrities turn to custom vehicle wraps to set themselves apart from the rest of the crowd,” says Edmund Karam from Lucent Wraps. “This is true even if they can afford the most exotic car such a Bugatti Veyron owned by Flo-Rida who’s known to re-wrap the vehicle to achieve new and exciting looks and themes. Other celebrities known for wrapping their car include: Chris Brown, Paris Hilton, Sergio Aguero just to name a few.”
Mahone’s love for custom car wraps might help him keep his Range Rover looking both fresh and clean, but it seems that they’re not doing him any favors when it comes to staying incognito.According to MTV News, Mahone’s craziest fan encounter entailed one of the Mahomies (the unfortunate name that Mahone’s fans inexplicably chose for themselves) literally climbed into his car.
“One time this girl hopped in my car when I was on my way driving home from a show,” Mahone said. “And I looked over and I was like, ‘I’ve never seen you before. What are you doing?’”
Much to his female fan’s dismay, Mahone politely asked her to leave his souped-up ride — but it’s likely not going to be the last time his car-wrapping habit gets him attention on the streets.
